How important is RAM?
When looking for proxy hosting, how important is it to have a lot of RAM? Is there a RAM to Bandwidth ratio that matters?
Obviously the more the better, but I've found "proxy hosting" which has 128mb on a VPS for $5/mo and then semi-dedicated hosting with 2gb for $60/mb. As a someone looking for hosting for a proxy, is it worth spending the $60 a month on a semi-dedicated versus the cheap ones offered, or is it even going to make a substantial difference? RE: How important is RAM?
Erm, 128mb will make your proxies run like turtles. It is worth it, if you plan on keeping any constant traffic.

RE: How important is RAM?
We are running on 4 gigs of ram Jacob
Indeed RAM is one of the most important factor when it comes to running proxies. They may offer you 2000GB BW with only 128mb of RAM, with this amount of RAM they know you probably wont exceed more than a couple hundred (probably just 100-200GB) of BW as your proxies would eat up the 128mb of RAM before you could use anymore BW. Previously our proxies were maxing out on 4 gigs ram while eating up only about 1000GB of BW so ya get what I mean. I would say go for the semi-dedicated if you are serious in proxies. There are tons of people offering cheap proxy hosting like just $3 per proxy hosting in DP and many other good offers such as the ones you mentioned. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. With cheap proxy hosting, expect downtime and high server load causing slowness. Quality hosting comes at a higher price but it's worth it. Downtimes for proxies are bad you can lose most of your visitors in just 1 day of downtime. So pay a bit more, get quality hosting, one that does not overload the servers. RE: How important is RAM?
How many proxies were you able to fit on a server with 4 gigs of ram? I've signed up for a semi-dedicated VPS with 2GB of ram and 1.5TB of bandwidth, but I don't want to overload the server.

RE: How important is RAM?
It's not a question of how many proxies your server can hold. Rather it's about how many visitors are using your proxies at one time simultaneously. You may host 1000 proxies with each receiving 10 UVs daily and that could still hold on your server no problem.
Thus it would depend on how many visitors you have on your proxies. Lots of users using your proxy at one time would cause high cpu load and RAM. MonsterProx Quality Proxy Hosting - Start your proxy journey with superb hosting! No Oversell! |

RE: How important is RAM?
If I have 256MB, how many UVs a day you think that could handle?
