Are proxies and thus proxy owners moral?

RE: Are proxies and thus proxy owners moral?
Just to add something: there are governments like Iran and Myanmar that block access to websites in order to keep their people from having contact with the rest of the world and to keep up to date with what's going on around them. In this respect I believe that proxies are offering a way out for these people. I never thought about blocking Iran even though it's the country with most hits on my proxies. However I have blocked China because they were clearly abusing the service I was offering probably by downloading pr0n.

Hmm I think China traffic abuses the most by sending tons of spam mails through proxies. At least that's how my proxy got blocked by China lol.

RE: Are proxies and thus proxy owners moral?
I have to agree wit SagaciousKJB, I look at this only as a service that I provide. It is what the user of the service chooses to do with the service is what can be judged immoral or not.

I have had this same discussion with a few people I know and they can be a little intense to say the least. It is interesting to see their reaction when I discuss with them how much of their personal browsing information (ISP, referring site, browser ect) is available to a web site owner (govt) when they surf the internet.

This is really a great topic!

TBH, i've only been asked this question once before and I kind of laughed at it. I really don't see any morality issues with running a proxy.

I think it is moral. It is like offering martial arts lessons. Some may use it for good and some may use it for bad but who cares as long as you make money =)

The morality of a proxy does not rely on the proxy or the owner...it relies on the user who is using the proxy. It could be good or it could be bad.

It depends on the person in my opinion and his beliefs.
